About MeWelcome! I am a Human-Computer Interaction researcher currently working as a post-doctoral research assistant at the University of Maryland-Baltimore County in Baltimore, MD. I work in the Human-Centered Computing research area group in the Information Systems Department. My current projects include (1) exploring ways to detect and predict user “stress” from multimodal input, and (2) the development, evaluation and extension of a fast and simple multi-stroke gesture recognizer called $N. My general research interests involve the integration of multimodal technologies into cohesive, natural user interfaces for people using computers in a variety of tasks and environments, and how these technologies can automatically adapt to user, environment and task needs based on current context cues. I focus on studying ways in which these technologies can provide benefits to potential end users, by using design principles based on properties of human cognition and perception, and by working directly with the target population for a new system to design, develop and evaluate new interface and interaction paradigms. Previously, I received my Ph.D. degree from the Human Computer Interaction Institute (HCII) in the School of Computer Science (SCS) at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
